S.P. Musson Son & Co. Ltd.

Named after its founder Mr. Samuel Paynter Musson, S. P. Musson started out as a wholesale and retail company and was one of the original six (6) companies, which formed the Barbados Shipping & Trading Co. Ltd. in 1921.

BS&T was initially a Wholesale Commission Merchant and an Importer as well as an Exporter of Sugar and Molasses.

S. P. Musson Son & Co. Ltd. merged with Dacosta & Co. Ltd. in 1965 and S. P. Musson the company ceased to exist except in the "books".

In 1981, a study was done by an American company and it was suggested that BS&T start a Property Management company because it owned too many derelict buildings. BS&T then transferred properties from other BS&T companies to form such a company. Thus S. P. Musson was re-established with a new role within the group.

We are well known for our renovation of properties, especially old warehouses. We have received high acclaim for preserving the flavor of the traditional architecture of old Bridgetown. Some of these buildings are Bridge House located in Cavans Lane, James Fort Building in Hincks Street and Musson Building also in Hincks Street.

Today S. P. Musson has diversified into Land Sales, A/C Duct Cleaning and Design Services.

Property Rentals is handled by the Rental Department. This department was formed in 1998 as part of the building department and consisting of the Manager for Rentals, Mr. Ian Donovan and his assistant Miss Tricia Morris.

They are currently 15 rental properties each with existing tenants. We offer premium rental space suitable for shop, office and even warehouse use. Our rental agreement for these spaces extends to renovation and maintenance. In addition we service the air conditioning and lighting for all buildings, free of cost. We provide day-to-day as well as preventative maintenance, e.g. checking roofs and gutters for debris, cups or loose sheets etc. in order to avoid problems during the rainy season.

Property Management is handled directly by our Building Department headed by our Managing Director Mr. D. Richard Lynch.

S. P. Musson has been in the Property Management business for the past twenty (20) years and is now offering its Property Management Services to the general public.

Our building management entails the advertising and rental of spaces, the creation of rental contracts, the preparation of quotations for tenant accounts, the preparation of space for rental, the collection of rents, and the maintenance of properties.

Each property is placed into our computerized property management system. All building's attributes are recorded, e.g. water meters, electric meters, air-conditioning information, square footage etc.

Supervisors are attached to each building and they work with our on-call contractors (plumbers, carpenters, etc.) to maintain and trouble-shoot day-to-day problems.

IIn 1986 S. P. Musson expanded to Land Sales. Headed by the Executive Chairman Mr. Walter Short the Land Department consists of the Supervisor Mr. John Bagot and Miss Andrea Carrington.

To date we have completed a total of six (6) developments. These include Ellerton Phase I and Phase II, Orange Estates and Montview Terrace in the parish of St. George, Casuarina Estate Phase I and Phase II in the parish of St. Philip. Plans are presently in place for two (2) more developments to come on stream.

Duct Cleaning Services are handled by our Duct Cleaning Supervisor, Mr. Dave Vaughan. We've added duct cleaning and restoration to our range of services. Our experienced personnel use state of the art duct cleaning machines and sanitizers to remove dust particles, fungi and algae from air conditioning ducts. Providing our clients and their staff with a safe and healthy environment.

Interior Design Services are also now being offered to the general public. Our experienced team of interior design specialists totals four strong. They design, layout, and prepare quotations based on the needs of each client. Customers are able to meet with our team and together decide on what the interior layout would be for their office/shop/home etc. The possibilities are endless… Color Schemes, Wall Removal, Cupboard Installations, Town Planning Applications. You name it we can provide you with the drawings.
